There are several reasons that you might encounter false/ghost alerts.  We interpret false alerts as radar or laser alerts when a police officer has not been spotted. A few include:

  1. Stores and businesses with automatic door openers or other systems that use radar.
  2. Cars that us radar for lane assistance and anti-collision systems.
  3. Interference from various electronic devices or systems in the area, even the display in some vehicles.

It's worth noting that oftentimes, customers will turn every band available on the detector ON, employing a "best to be covered" mindset.  However, scanning for bands or systems that may not be used in your area will increase the level of false or ghost alerts you will receive, as this reduces filtering and allows more of these unintended alerts to come through.  So, our advice is to make sure firmware is up to date and reset the detector back to factory defaults as a base.  **If you know for sure that a particular system IS in use in your area, then do turn it back on.

Find update information here:  Update My Device

Also, to get back to suggested settings, perform Factory Reset. You will find the process for doing this in the Owner's Manual.

After the reset and update, most customers find the issue is much improved or resolved.  If the problem persists, we can dig a bit deeper.  To find out whether the false alerts may be coming from something in the car, first try moving the detector to a new mounting location, either right or left of center, and away from displays.  This will sometimes do the trick. If not, test it in a different model vehicle.  This help to identify whether the source is in the car.  If so, we should work to discover the specific frequency or frequencies causing the problematic alerts. Once we have this information, we may be able to customize settings to minimize it. Please refer the manual to learn how to identify the frequencies of each alert and/or use Drive Smarter to find alert history.
